Lots of colorful photos and renderings plus tidbits of information I haven't found anywhere else. This book is a must for modelers and yes, the kids will enjoy it too. This book is not for the individual who wants all the facts ever known about Biplanes, Triplanes and Seaplanes in one book. It's certainly worthwhile for anyone else interested in the subject. For $12.00 +/- you can't go wrong.DC
Excellent depiction of all the biplane aircraft and float planes--especially enjoyed the Russian Baltic Sea Monsters.....
I gave the book as a gift and the gift getter says it is absolutely wonderful and for a flight enthusiast, is "plane porn."
This book would make a good gift for a young child with an interest in airplanes. Only a step above a pop-up book, it's graphics are colorful and pleasant. The photos are too small to be of any use. and the statistical information provided isn't consistant from one entry to the next. It is obvious that the authors made no attempt to cover all the bases, depending rather on their own personal preferences. This would explain why the Fokker D-VII received 6 pages and the Sopwith 1 & 1/2 Strutter is not even listed. An even larger question is why the DH.80A was even included at all as it is neither a biplane, a triplane, nor a seaplane. And no entry at all is made of that most famous of American biplanes - the PT-17 Stearman! This book is obviously the work of house writers that were give the project and a week to create it. An exercise in desktop publishing in saleable book form.As I said, a good book for the child of 6 or 8 but a complete waste of money for anyone seriously interested in the subject(s). I bought my copy at a used bookstore for $5 and still feel ripped off. It's not even a fair reference for modeling purposes.If you're out of the 4th grade, don't waste your time.
This book is not an in-depth, extensive work covering all aircraft in this category, but it's absolutely worthwile getting.I love the size of the book and layout of the pages where photos and drawings are supplemented with bullet style facts and descriptions.It's a great book to have lying around and every now and then open it on a random page, read it, marvel at the photos and get a feeling of what aviation was like in the twenties or thirties of the last century.
