This is strictly a review of the print product. I have the pdf from onebookshelf. I love it--great artwork, great rules. Awesome addition to savage worlds. The print product from Studio2, on the other hand, is a very poor black-and-white print job. The colors are so washed out as to render the text unreadable. The artwork, which looks so vibrant in the pdf, blends into the page and is in many cases indistinguishable. As far as this product goes, you're far better off purchasing the pdf, turning off the background color layers to save ink, and printing at home. I would caution anyone against buying this print version. Do it yourself, or wait until DriveThru offers POD with a premium color version. Mabye I just got a bad print job, but I'm very disappointed.
Small Print Book with small fonts and dark images. I do not see me using this version of the book around the table often.
A great, unique sci-fi setting. Wonderful artwork and trade dress.
print quality is very low which makes the book difficult to read. The last 20 pages DO NOT EVEN HAVE PAGE NUMBERS! If you want the book to stay open you have to press it down very hard, which damages the binding. Shortly after pages start to fall out because the only thing holding it together is a little bit of glue.As for the content, mostly fluff but interesting fluff if you like the setting like I did. If the setting is not your cup of tea then you will think it is a waste of money. They really should have combined the info in the second supplement Galaxy and made a larger book of better quality.
Bought this at GenCon, as I am something of a Savage Worlds fan ... and, having just gotten around to reading through it I must say that I am quite ... unimpressed.Look, it's not *awful*, mind ... it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense on pretty much any level you care to name.It's as if someone said, "Wouldn't it be cool if we jammed up Call of Cthulhu with Organised Crime, Noble Intrigue and endless warfare ..." and did just that. Unfortunately, the *way* it has been done just doesn't make much sense. None of the background elements make any sense in the way they are set up and, worse, the way they interact also makes no sense.The military side of things is probably the worst ... whoever wrote this doesn't seem to have the slightest idea of how a military force operates, why it operates that way, and, oh, pretty much anything at all about things military.There are missing rules, as well ... there is a Chapter on Psionics, but it is all *fluff* ... there are no rules. There are not even references to how the core rules from the Savage Worlds core rulebook(s) might be impacted or may need to be modified for this background.The whole reason for the book is the "Elder Gods come back and get whipped by modern high tech" really isn't dealt with much at all ... there is little in the way of 'monsters', the equipment is pretty much laughably low tech etc. etc.The language is ... impenetrable in some places, awkward in many ... and, yes, I gather that the author's first language may not be English, but that's really not an acceptable excuse. YMMV.In reality, the book is simply a collection of more or less unconnected ideas thrown together. A few good or potentially good ones, a lot more that really haven't been made to work. Not recommended.
