Sandra Miller Linhart was born in Lander, Wyoming on a warm, summer day in 1962, in a hospital which has since been turned into a mental institution... which most likely holds no correlation... probably. The story is ok but not applicable to my 4 year old. The kid in the story takes his father's boots because he doesn't want him to leave. Overall not a bad book but not worth the price. Also other reviews who made me believe that this book addressed resiliency for military children and it doesn't really or at least I don't feel it does.

We recently found out my husband would be spending a year in Korea. We have a 2 1/2 year old and 8 month old twins. We are concerned with our 2 1/2 year old seeing as he has spent no time away from daddy. After back to back deployments we final caught a break. Now looking at spending a year apart again but now with 3 children is a whole new experience. I want the transition to be a smooth as possible for them. I research many books for his age group. As far as the ones I purchased this book was by far the best. My son loves it and asks to read it with my husband every night. It has a great message about the importance of the work a soldier does and many other important jobs. We love it because we can incorporate life now to prepare for the day he leaves. Such as, "daddy and boots have to go to work now" and he loves the bear in the book. He is always talking about the bear so we are going to get 2 bears one to go with daddy (so daddy can take pictures with the bear on his adventures) and then another to pop in and see us every once in awhile. It really is a sweet book that is very age appropriate. The only line that I may leave out once I start reading it to him is the one where the little boy bean ask his daddy is he will get hurt. Other than that the content of the book is very appropriate for a 2 year old. Another great purchase was Night Catch!

Nowhere does it specify that this is an army specific book. ...my husband is in the Marine Corps, so I was disappointed to see that I will have to transpose words while reading to our son.

I bought this for my husband to read to our daughter before he delpoyed to help her understand what was happening. It is very touching.My 2 year old can sit through the whole book and points to the pictures. She knows the boots and she knows what the mean. Sopmetimes just talking about it isn't enough. Small children need something that they can see and touch to really know and understand that mom or dad or going away for some time.

Good book. My husband is in the Navy and my son loves reading this book, especially when my husband is on deployment

As expected, fast shipping

My husband is deployed right now and I bought this book for our three an six year old little boys to help them try to understand a little bit better of why daddy is gone and they loved it! Very helpful and a wonderful story line at that!
